RockBands and Ensembles

As the province has entered Stage 3, the Toronto Guitar School is pleased to announce that our popular Rock Bands and Ensembles program has resumed at our Front and Sherborne location. For those new to our program you will need to audition to be placed in a band.  You can audition online via Zoom for free anytime by calling the school office and we will arrange a mutually convenient audition time with one of our instructors. There are currently a number of openings for bands starting up in the summer and the fall terms. Please contact the school office by phone 416-707-1077 or email admin@mintmusic.ca for more information.

As the safety of our students and instructors is always our top priority, we would like to remind those new to our program that the Mint Music adheres to all government laws and regulations, following strict COVID-19 protocols, employing PPE and physical distancing measures and our instructors are fully vaccinated. As we continue to navigate Stage 3 we will provide you with any updates and changes that affect our lessons, classes and bands.

RockBands and Ensembles are an invaluable way to build on the skills one learns in a private lesson or a group class. Some of these skills are critical listening and the ability to interact with other players, as well as knowing what to play, how to play and when to play it.

Play in a Band

If you want to play in a band, our Rock Band and Ensemble program is for you. One of the most popular electives after private lesson studies, the Rock Band or Ensemble program provides an invaluable way to develop the musical skills necessary to play and perform with others. If you are a student, every effort will be made to place you in a band that matches your stylistic interest and skill level. If you currently don’t study at the school you are still welcome to participate so read on to discover how you can be a part of this exciting and popular program.

For as little as $20 per class, you will develop critical listening and performance skills while making new friends in a relaxed and fun environment. All our Bands are supervised by a qualified music instructor and all participants in the program have the opportunity to perform at our Student Concerts and events.

All Rock Band or Ensemble members have the opportunity to record with Mint Music’s Recording Studios and take advantage of Mint Music’s video services at a reduced rate.

We have Rock Bands and Ensembles for all ages, levels and styles. Our Rock Bands and Ensembles rehearse on a weekly basis on various days of the week, depending on the schedules of each member in the group and the availability of their music instructor.

Requirements

To join a Rock Band or Ensemble, you must audition first. This can be done by contacting the school directly: Please call 416-707-1077 or email admin@mintmusic.ca. Auditioning is a necessary step to ensure you are placed in a Rock Band or Ensemble that matches your stylistic preference and musical skill level perfectly.

Pricing

The individual class cost varies from $20 to $35 depending on which ensemble you sign up for and the number of instructors in each group. For example, our most popular format is having a professional session drummer and a Mint Music School instructor/multi-instrumentalist and is $35 per person with a minimum of 4 participants.

Generally when a new group starts up participants only pay for one session up front. This gives everyone a chance to see if the group and program is a good fit for them. After that first session attendees are then asked if they would like to continue rehearsing on a weekly basis with their band. Once established all Rock Bands and Ensembles rehearse weekly and run for a school term which is normally 10-13 weeks long.
