During an individual lesson at Mint Music you get the full attention of an expert musician and teacher who is focused on you, and you alone. Your individual teacher will make sure that you are getting a rich student-teacher relationship, direct and focused feedback, personalized practice plans, and interactive technical and artistic instruction.

At Mint Music, we focus on delivering quality individual music instruction because we know that individual lessons are the best way to develop your musical skills. In fact Mint Music has been a leader in providing quality individual music lessons in Toronto for over 15 years. With now over 30 instructors covering every major musical instrument, style and level you can be sure that you will receive the best quality musical education that Toronto has to offer right here at Mint Music.

Group Classes

We currently provide an ongoing series of group classes for various musical instruments and subjects. These classes are aimed to provide beginner to intermediate level instruction in guitar, ukulele, songwriting, theory and recording arts.

Group lessons can be a great additional add-on to individual lessons allowing students to learn an additional instrument or expand their musical toolbox. Mint Music is committed to offering the highest quality group music lessons in Toronto with class sizes no greater than 6 students per instructor. Classes typically run anywhere from 10 – 13 weeks depending on the time of year they are offered.

Clinics and Workshops

Mint Music also offers a special series of year-round music clinics and workshops focusing on specific instruments, technique and other music related topics. Some workshops are free and included with your Mint Music student membership and others may have an additional fee. Individual Lessons Versus Group Classes

Every serious music student knows that expert individual lessons are indispensable for developing your musical talent to the fullest. Of course, specially focused group lessons, classes, clinics and workshops can also be a useful way to inspire, expand your musical skills and learn valuable tips from qualified instructors.

At Mint Music, you will find the very best of both worlds! We are focused first on delivering excellent individual one-on-one music lessons, while also providing the opportunity to expand your musical skill set by taking part in an exciting variety of group lessons and classes.

Well organized and executed group lessons certainly have their place and can be significantly cheaper than private lessons but remember no matter how good the teacher is in a group class their attention is spread out over many students. There is no comparison between group lessons and the focused individualized experience of private lessons. Some unscrupulous schools and educators on the internet will tell you there’s no difference between taking a video course or group class and that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

In any group or individual lesson the amount of real-time personalized feedback you get from your teacher is essential to ensure your music trajectory is navigated properly so you don’t waste time having to relearn bad habits that were never noticed due to the poor format of the group lesson or class you took. This is why in every class at Mint Music you get personalized real time feedback from a qualified teacher and our classes are small (no more than 6 people) so that no student falls through the cracks.

When students come to us having previously taken in-person or online group lessons elsewhere, we often notice bad habits and serious deficiencies in technique and playing ability that would never have survived the attention of a focused individual lesson taught by a caring and experienced teacher. Educational research has shown again and again that students who take individual lessons are the most able to progress quicker, develop better techniques and habits and thus are more successful in the long-term.

Simply put, the one-on-one relationship with a teacher gives you the focused direct attention you need to become the musician you aim to be. Group classes, workshops, and ensembles can certainly supplement and enrich a student’s musical experience but wherever possible they should never be relied on as the primary way to learn an instrument on a long-term basis.
